it turns out ice demon is messed up and prioritizes eruption too often , murdering your kitty

and cougar can pretty much sustain justices too easily

doesnt mean cougar is weak, its buffed quite a bit versus stock cougar

so a good question for me would be

The whole point of going cougar was to be able to have a reasonable chance to beat most if not all. HM lvls being the exception

Right now full int mages 72+ can solo more bosses and are PVP ready.

Not sure the happy medium but right now there is no real incentive to go cougar mage. Maybe the summon talent tree idea that was brought up

Obviously dragons, I would say some HM ToI bosses should be reserved to team efforts and not solo cougar but I don't see why a HM1 Seer, SL, Iris, KV shouldn't be doable. Ice Demon and Ice Queen for sure should be doable. They were a chore but it's impossible here. Ken Rahuel and Cerenis were always a top favorite for any cougar mage I knew.

If you seen how easy Death Knight is and then compare to even SoE lesser bosses like the Beleth or Bapho, it's actually really funny.

There are INT mages soloing yahee and varlok. Can’t do that as cougar mage

Literally can't kill Phoenix

I would vote for it to be able to do most bosses, if its buffed but bosses are buffed even more, then could it be buffed more? its sad to read a Cougar is unable to kill a Phoenix or struggles against basic bosses. And maybe im not there yet, but I was building a mage so I could do CHA mage to go Cougar, and now it seems its not a viable option for what I read.

All summons previous to Cougar are really really bad, was hoping Cougar changed that.

It's 1000% pointless to go cougar. You can farm 81f easy but that's it. HM1 ToI bosses doesn't work and with double cast I can solo almost any boss without the cougar

How about a new summon for lv76 mage?

What is theoretical max cha on this server? Possible to add some rare custom cha items for say double cougar?

Even if something was given to lvl 76 summon mage, 72 mage with cougar needs more incentive. Cougar needs to be able to survive boss fights. They are not viable for PvP so they need to have some edge over pure INT mage

It is hard to be as comparable with pure int mage when it comes to boss fight. Pure int mage always has better boss clearing speed and survivability.

Another way to buff Cougar I can think of is to grant cougar ability to cast certain debuff on mob/boss/enemy, and/or grant buffs to the mage.

Examples: 3% chance per hit to cast disease/weakness/silence/cancel/guard break/horror/fear/etc to opponent.

3% chance to cast buff such as heal/patience/concentrate/etc to summoner.

That will make cougar mage more interesting in PvE. But still not viable for PvP as elf can release them ez

Cougar is a farming beast without downtime but shouldn't just kill any and every boss. We can figure out how many bosses out for the god knows how many you feel should be soloable, but it doesn't mean it should solo everything

At this time I just don’t see a reason to play cougar mage. Like you said, maybe if they add some buff to mage or the summon to make it viable.

If nothing is buffed then there is no reason to play cougar mage. As INT mage, I did fine with summoning 3 dire bears and doing what I do now with cougar. Maybe a little slower but you are combat ready being INT for PvP.

Worst case, nothing is buffed and no incentive for cougar and no one goes that route. I would just like clarity. I’ll just switch to INT if it’s too hard to balance cougar

Cougar mage can solo 90% of boss that is not a problem. But it is at a position that is subpar by Int mage in every other way.

Proposal: Create stronger summon for lv76 mage and make summons able to cast buff/debuff XDD

Cougar can kill L4 bosses which are the only bosses you kill with it Yamm. See how it does on Phoenix or tier 1 Iris or just a regular KV. Try demon, ice demon and ice queen.

Then try death knight and let me know the results.

Yeah, maybe back when L4 wasn’t busy cougar mages had a purpose for that. That’s no longer the case, which is a good thing. Now we are left with a weak summon mage. Interested in seeing the future of pure summon mages!

I mean, if you dont see any Cougar mage around is because its not working.

If two Iris on F91+ come together, its dead, even Dark Elder takes its HP down to half ... it needs healing for a boss like that.

For the amount of CHA it requires, 4 high level pets are way better.

Dont understand why if so many people is saying Cougar aint working, its not being revised. If an INT mage con do it way better, its not working. I mean, the purpose for Summoners is let the Companion do the work, they even sacrifice exp to that purpose, and if its doing it worse than having a pure INT mage with a good Proc Staff, and if hunting is faster with pets, it means to me that its not fullfilling its purpose.

And dont get me wrong, would love to see Pets keep getting the love they get, but would also love to see Summoners get love as well.

If we are talking the normal cougar tanking and mage support on bosses then INT mages can solo the following that cougar mages cannot (only my experience):

Now I’m not the best INT and/or cougar mage so this is just my personal experience. I haven’t hunted every boss in the game but the above are concerning because they offer some sought after items.

I put out that I think I2H should work on summon because I think that gives cougar a fighting chance to tank while mage heals. Hell, it might not even make a difference but then again I use different summons for different situations.

like Mephi said cougar is actually OP. The problem is it pulls agro too fast and then can’t sustain damage from above bosses. I’ve used other summons so they don’t pull aggro and can take some down… but it’s rough. I’m mainly still cougar because I can lazily hunt DI for dream woven stuff. Would like to actively use it for bosses though.

I think at this point is clear Cougar won’t get any love 😆, just go INT mage, summon seems not to be an intended build.

Cougar dies to F81+ bosses, while some pets don’t. It’s just not working.

Today I went back to INT when I noticed even Dark Elder was taking almost 50% of his HP away. Sure, it would not have died to Dark Elder, but proves the point it’s not strong enough to kill fast and dies fast. MP is just not enough to keep him alive either.

Try going for 4 Dragons, Pets do get love and you can level them to 70+. They will do way more damage than Cougar and at that level they will almost tank the same, plus all Runes will work better with them.

IE: Savagery Rune (3% Crit) if added to Cougar is only one summon, if added to four Dragons (or even more pets) it sums up to 12% (3% each) if you add any other rune that adds speed or damage it will proc x 4 times, which means in the end it will make way more damage.

Every boss. The AoE is what really kills the cougar and when bosses like KV spam EQ and follow up with meteor… I mean it spams EQ but you already knew this.

Only the low level ToI bosses like ZQ and oddly enough DK is what the Cougar could do
