Improvements for future events

Now that this event has ended, I want to do a compendium of the ideas that I got during the event, to improve it in a future next events. The event was a great event in fun of terms, but I ended with a bitter taste on few thinks. So I open this suggestion, to allow everyone to share their ideas, to commonly evaluate.

1- Pity counter

In this event we got 3 situations where a pity counter could help in fairness:

This event was sustained on the idea of farm goblin king key, it was pretty frustrating open and open portals and see that you don't get one king portal, while others open one before another.

Other frustrating moment was when you killed tons of Gremlins and you don't open a single portal (I know people killing more than 300~400 in a row without a single portal), while others open one before another.

And the final situation opening the boxes, it's pretty frustrating hunt hours during the event, to get boxes and get in good position in number of event mobs killed (16700 here) to end with 34 opened boxes and 0 rare/good drops my best 3 rare runes boxes, while others opened 45 boxes, and get four or five extremely rare drops.

All of this problems have a common solution, pity counter, like the one that we have for the weapon elemental enchanting.

We are talking of an event, so everyone has the right to enjoy it, so for example a pity counter each 300 goblins to open a portal, a pity counter each X portals to open a king and maybe a last pity counter every XX king boxes to warrant a nice drop.

I know the pity counter in king boxes, maybe it's something that can be discussed, but a pity counter to open portals or find the king portal it's more reasonable, because everyone wants to kill kings.

Brainstorm.webp

2- The problem of 24/7 farmers vs the normal people vs the server item flooding

Always will be people farming 24/7 in events, this don't have solution. The only solution that I find to control the overitem caused by crazy farmers, is increase exponentially the number of items needed to get a good drop.

Example:

In an event you get an item called Event Item.

There is a trader that exchanges you items for Event Item and increases the cost the more you buy from the same item, here is a exchange price:

1st Ruby Dragon - 1 Event Item
2nd Ruby Dragon - 2 Event Item
3rd Ruby Dragon - 4 Event Item
4th Ruby Dragon - 7 Event Item
5th Ruby Dragon or more - 11 Event Item

This way you put harder for hardcore farmers to overflood the server with some items

3- The problem of changes during the event

Another problem we have is the changes modulating the event. Everyone has his own life conditions and situations, so each time we see an event, each of us, see the duration and orders his life to try to play the event. Some people can decide gets a holidays to play event, some people decide to play more on first days, others at last days, others during the whole event, etc...

So it's not good for players, see how the event is adapting for good or for bad during the event, this makes an unfair situation for the players that can't play during the "good event window" as consequence of his life situation.

So it would be great avoid regulation on drops/situations during the event.

I know it's pretty hard, because the event means a new situation, that sometimes can be broken or in the worst place it's a shit in drops, and needs be increased.

But maybe this problem could be avoided with a pretest of the event, or a beta testing, to check who is getting the drops, using test items with no value. That could be a solution to help events arrive to the server working as intended.

4- The Blind Dilemma

Finally in this event we got an announcement that after the event a Goblin trader will appear to trader our tokens for items.

As far as I know I didn't saw the token prices and the info on what items you could buy was only published one time in a way that's hard to find.

So many people that I know, have been farming blindly without knowing how many tokens they will need and what they can buy.

That's a blind dilemma because, you don't know where is your goal, and how much you will need to get what you want, so you don't know where you need to stop.

In the other side, you will never know if prices have been adapted to event items droped.

Something similar happened with Goblins in lookup section. If you writed goblin they didn't appear, to find them (greedy/treasure/mystic) you needed to click Goblin king key item and search who droped, to arrive them.

So my suggestion for future event is get a more accessible information of everything, included all the changes that GM's do during the event, maybe in a special section in discord called "Event updates".

Goblin event was big improvement over last one. One of the best events what i have seen.

I didnt like blind goblin merchant mechanic. You grind to fev toekns , miss good item and you are unhappy. You grind to many tokens and rewards are bad .. . and you are unhappy

You didnt need get good drops to benefit from event. Blessed adena is good mechanic to help people who have bad luck.Sell it or sell boxes and buy item what you need. I got almost every item what was in my pre event shoping list.

Event did last enough long to even odds if you had few days bad luck or if you couldnt play during weekend. I got my first king portal around 2700 gremlin kill .Maybe on third day ... or late second day I quess it was 30-th portal. At end i dont feel that i got to few king portals or to few normal portals.

Don't missunderstand me, I think the event was great and very hard to improve. I just opened this report as a brainstorm of ideas.

I think a probability based system like this event is more interesting and fair than using a pity count. If we use a pity count, wouldn’t the people who play 24/7 ultimately end up being guaranteed to get the most rewards?

Personally, I would actually prefer limiting the event to around 3–5 hours per day, so that people can enjoy the same amount of event time without it negatively affecting their real life. I think that would make the event more enjoyable and fair for everyone. Yes, that's right. I’m jealous of people who can play the game 24 hours a day. In a way..

Limiting only play time dosnt resolve fairness problem. It does favor people who play at time when most of the server population does sleep.
Where during peak times start people fight over limited event monsters. What will continue after theyr timer is over because why let other people to play event if you can PK them.

I meant a personal time limit, like playing on Hard Mode.

hard mode is in open area, giran prison is dungeon timer and you get ported out but you still share monsters with other players

Maybe they could make it so players whose timers have expired can't see the Treasure Goblin? Of course, I can't do that myself, haha.
Also, I didn't think the last Goblin Event was unfair or anything. I'm just bummed I didn't get to play as much.

I didnt mean event was unfair. I would say you feel its unfair that others can play more when you do. Tho i could be wrong.
Or what is the reason to implement personal event timers ?

I felt pretty exhausted, too. A week isn't a short time, but I felt like I'd fall behind if I didn't try harder, so I pushed myself hard playing more.

More testing before event. This one had a lot of fixing of spaghetti code live.

Way lower bar for participation item like gremlin doll.

More advance knowledge of rewards.

Less beta item reward boxes. Like legendary rune boxes, which still have non functional legendaries you can pull like rhyme.

Personally, the big offender was the "blind dilemma".
I stopped playing the event because I didnt have a goal... As a result, I only played 2 days I think. I fared well. but if I would have know what goblin merchant could sell I might had pushed it...

Transparancy is key...
A pity counter is fair too, after 300 gremlins I went mad... Or a pity counter on King portal for instance.
Rewards, broken rewards should be like the doll... 1 per player and event
So that you could get 1 of each boxes and a doll was ok. But let it know...

Agree. Had I known I might have focused the event more too. But then the price point on participation item was set arbitrarily high. Way beyond my wildest expectations. It’s very disappointing and the bad final experience on that tainted the experience of what was an otherwise very good event design.

Problem with 1 per account limited tradable items is.
If they are good and cheap. People will just do multiple accounts and sell items later.
I know there is 1 web account per person rule. But you could just take next comp and say im playing with my little brothers or with my kids.
Well im pointing it just out. Im not trying to sabotage your attempts to get gremlin doll . I hope there is way where everyone can get it.

Partly done: newer events publish their rewards in the event guide up front, and Haunted Hallow uses a daily time limit per character. A pity counter has not been added.
