Mage/Illusionist Staff Modification Suggestion

In my opinion, buffing these staffs to this extent would significantly reduce the difference between low-end and high-end staffs.

When I first started, I was in the same situation and didn’t experience any major issues using the staffs with their current stats.

If the lower-tier staffs are going to receive buffs, then the higher-tier staffs should be adjusted as well. Otherwise, there will be very little distinction between them, making progression feel less meaningful.

This is not the case, the request is for a single staff to be changed from 2 handed to 1 handed, thus bringing it inline with the other Existing Low End staffs, this is all. Thank you.

I would love to see mages getting a little buffed overal, I’m currently encountering -20% spell chances in PvP with spells like slow… to be honest, that does feel a bit off…

Mage progression? There’s basically nothing worth using over crystal staff for MPR until you get something like Beleth, bapho, wand of laia, Eva’s, spear of intense winter, etc. just MPR and turn undead until you can get a real weapon. 🤣

I suppose black wizard/lastavard are fine if you really want to aoe a little better early.

Agree red crystal is dead on arrival as a 2H though. No reason to take off BoMP/mana ball, so the int on it is irrelevant. Nobody is going to use a guarder with it since guarders are worth more than real 1H staves. You’d sell the guarder and buy a real weapon.

Not sure it’s as simple as just make it 1H though, because then it becomes the very best cheap thing to buy for TU leveling until you can afford an expensive weapon.

If there was a cheaper guarder option than exists today, red crystal might have some niche value as a 2H. A new guarder with no Hp/Mp and basically just +1 int. Then you can have the extra int but sacrifice the AC/MP to do it.

Hi Falran, Appreciate the input. I very much like the idea of a low cost guarder option with no HP/MP, just +1 int, can not be enchanted and has an AC of Zero. To the point of making it 1H would make it the very best cheap thing to buy for TU leveling, yes it would, and at the time when it is needed the most at the lower levels. Regarding MPR, as the Red Crystal is 5mpr (+1mpr for the +1wisdom) Meditating between hunts, switch to Crystal Staff, for increased mpr.
